Occupy Wall Street - A Constructive Dialogue

Over the past several weeks, we have been observing and discussing the movement known as "Occupy Wall Street." From where I sit, it seems far too much of the discussion in the media so far has been focused in a couple of ways. One, the lack of leadership and concrete demands from the protesters. Secondly, and worse than the first, is some media outlets' outright dismissal of the people involved and the issues they care about. I don't think that helps foster constructive dialogue. That's why we spent some time in Grand Circus park in Detroit talking to those involved. We wanted a clearer picture of who makes up the movement, and what they hope to accomplish. We aren't cheerleading, and we aren't dismissing; we are learning. This is the type of thoughtful conversation you rightly demand from us at WDET. To continue in that vein, we wanted you to see this video. Today, on New York's public radio station WNYC, host Brian Lehrer held an hour long discussion on the movement in that city. We hope you enjoy it. - Craig Fahle
