WDET Looks at New Detroit/Windsor Bridge

September 29, 2014

Detroit is home to one of the busiest international border crossings in North America.

In 2010 a snow storm closed the Blue Water Bridge, causing a huge traffic jam at Ambassador Bridge which put a major halt to auto manufacturing.

The incident proved the need for a "back up" bridge.

Officials from the state of Michigan and Canada are now working on plans for one between Detroit and Windsor, landing smack-dab in the middle of the Delray neighborhood.

Governor Rick Snyder promises the construction will create "thousands more jobs," and says it is, "[an opportunity] to improve the quality of life for all Michiganders."

This week, WDET will take a look at the status of the project - what nearby residents are saying about it and what it means for the entire region.
