"We are excited to collaborate with WDET, one of Detroit's leading community voices, to address healthy food access. It's fantastic that we and WDET could come together to raise awareness for one of the most critical issues facing our city. Getting the community’s support and being able to donate more than 41,000 meals to Gleaners speaks to what this partnership can and will accomplish."

- Elizabeth Parkinson, Detroit Lions Senior Vice President of Marketing and Partnerships

"A strong community requires kids who are healthy, well-nourished and ready to learn and succeed. I'm so grateful to the Detroit Lions, WDET and metro Detroiters for stepping up to feed our region’s kids. Every meal raised will help a child stay on the path to a bright future. Thank you!"

- Gerry Brisson, president of Gleaners Community Food Bank

Food insecurity is one of the most critical issues facing our community. In fact, one in four Michigan children struggles with hunger. Last year, WDET produced an extensive report on Detroit's Food Economy. This year we wanted to go further. The Detroit Lions are also committed to raising awareness of this problem as part of their Living for the City initiative. They reached out to us to support the work we are doing and join forces to create a healthier region. So we created The Detroit Lions Challenge, our latest Community Impact Campaign, to kick off our new partnership.

The challenge was simple and important. The Detroit Lions committed to matching every dollar given to WDET that day with a nutritious meal for a local family in need through Gleaners Community Food Bank. Well over 300 people stepped up to meet the challenge and collectively, we made it possible for over 41,000 healthy meals to be provided to kids in our region. 41,000. THAT is community impact.

As is tradition here at WDET, we pulled together a little video to show our appreciation. Go behind the scenes as our hosts and staff break it down and express their gratitude.

Thank you to the Detroit Lions, Gleaners, and most importantly - everyone who supported us during the Spring Fundraiser and The Detroit Lions Challenge. Together we make media that matters. Media that makes a difference. And - we make it in Detroit.
