What Is The Role Of Satire?

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

Stephen takes a look at satire’s role in American journalism and politics with Associate Professor of Journalism at Wayne State University Fred Vultee.

The first issue of Charlie Hebdo since the attacks in Paris hit newsstands today, and promptly sold all 3 million copies. Vultee joins Stephen to discuss the history of satire in society, and if it --along with lampooning and humor-- plays a part in how we consume and react to news. Stephen also includes listeners in the conversation, and sets up the conversation with a clip of The Onion's Former Editor Joe Randazzo weighing in on last week's attack on the French satirical publication.
