Mayor of Ann Arbor On Precarious Relationship Between Citizens and UM

Much has changed in our region over the past several years. No city was immune from effects of the recession. That includes Ann Arbor -- a city with a generally stable economy, due in large part to the University of Michigan. In our continuing series of discussions with area mayors, Laura Weber Davis spoke with outgoing Mayor John Hieftje, who has been in office since 2000. He says the issues most important to him have been mass transportation, environmentalism, maintaining the fiscal health of the city and managing the relationship between citizens and the University of Michigan.
