Indigenous Australian vocalist Emma Donovan and Melbourne band The PutBacks collaborated on the soulful song “Daddy,” the first single from their album Dawn – which is promised to contain “hard hitting and heartfelt soul songs by way of a gritty, uniquely Australian record.” And I can dig it.

An Otherworldly Grand Opening @ UFO Factory

Greetings Earthlings, you are not alone. This weekend, Corktown's much-anticipated new social club, UFO Factory is opening with a major bang! The new space, located near the old Tiger Stadium, is hosting a weekend-long grand opening celebration featuring an out-of-this-world lineup of local acts. From Friday night performances from Duane - The Brand New Dog, along with Mountains and Rainbows to Saturday night with The Hentchmen and Ghouls, this is one inaugural shindig you won't want to miss.



Everything’s Illuminated @ DLECTRICTY

Here it is! inspired by Nuit Blanche events, this is your opportunity to hit up Midtown Detroit and experience the neighborhood like you never have before. Glowing, radiating, shining in technicolor , artists from around the world have set up a bevy on light installations, from the DIA to the Max (and a bunch of nook-and-cranies in between) for DLECTRICTY.

Kristin Beaver @ David Klein Gallery

Friday, September 26th from 5 to 8 PM | Birmingham

The phenomenal Detroit based artist Kristin Beaver is exhibiting new work in a collection called “Treasure.” Beaver paints larger-than-life portraits of friends in cinematic poses inspired by fashion photography, album cover art and the history of painting. Dramatic lighting and punchy, color-illuminate subjects in photo-shoot and candid environments, exposing different attitudes and personalities. Kristin Beaver received her BFA in painting from Western Illinois University in 2000, and an MFA in painting from Wayne State University in Detroit in 2004. She is currently represented by the David Klein Gallery in Birmingham, MI and has shown throughout the United States. Kristin is a recent recipient of the 2009 Kresge Artist Fellowship.



The Fifth House Ensemble Mix IT Up @ The Max

Fifth House Ensemble presents Black Violet II, a multi-media narrative chamber music collaboration featuring the work of Chicago graphic novelist Ezra Claytan Daniels. Centered during the last outbreak of the plague in London, the gripping performance melds vivid imagery and riveting narrative with music of the highest caliber as graphic novel slides illustrate the story.

Founded in 2009 by renowned local designer Joe Faris of Project Runway, Fashion In Detroit 2014 is a non-profit corporation established to spotlight Metro-Detroit’s fashion and it’s unique development. Fashion In Detroit 2014 includes Runway Shows, Market Detroit and FID After Glow.



Honoring The First Nations @ Native American Heritage Day

Saturday, September 27th @ 1 PM | Westland

Each year, nearly 1,000 people embrace this special social gathering which includes a traditional drumming circle and dancers in beautiful regalia. Native American crafts and food will be available for purchase. All ages are welcome to enjoy this celebration of Michigan’s first people. Due to limited seating, please bring a lawn chair. This is a free outdoor event.



Dave Kinsey @ Library Street Gallery

Dave Kinsey is exhibiting new work at the Library Street Gallery in Detroit. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1971 and attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Atlanta before moving to California in 1994 to pursue a career as a designer and fine artist. His work attempts to capture the universal essence of the human condition mainly through a symbolic portrayal of contemporary life. Utilizing a range of mediums, he constructs multi-layered, textured environments that echo the complexities of our existence.
