Boogie Down Percussions: Will Sessions Drops New Tunes @ TV Lounge

For years, you heard Will Sessions recreate the instrumentals of the classic Nas record Illmatic, which served as the bumper music for WDET’s The Craig Fahle Show. The versatile soul and funk band are back to take the stage and, for the VERY FIRST TIME, performing new music as they turn their attention to the boogie funk sound of the late ‘70s and ‘80s. DJs Todd Osborne and Erno the Inferno get things moving.

Along For The Ride: Passenger Launches @ Capitol Park District

This one-night-only art event celebrates a new program called passenger. Here’s what we know: Artists Brian Barr and Lauren Rice created this new residency program to provide artists from around the world a live/work space ( complete with a monthly stipend) to attract top artists to live and work in Detroit and engage with our cultural community. There’s a big push to make this a success, with programming support from the College for Creative Studies and the Detroit Creative Corridor Center,while the cash to make it come to life is coming by way of the Knight Foundation, Rock Ventures and Bedrock Real Estate. It goes down at 119 State Street.

Bask In Your Thought Crimes: Location Considered @ Inner State Gallery

If you’re into art that bridges the gap between the street and the gallery, look no further than Alex “Bask” Hostomsky. The curators at Inner State say the Czech-born artist is returning to Detroit for his first time in two years with his most ambitious solo show to date. Titled “Location, Location, Location,” the exhibition features more than 300 new pieces.
