City Of Southfield On The Rebound After Several Lean Years

Tuesday, June 3, 2014

As part of our continuing series of discussions with Metro Detroit mayors, Southfield Mayor, Brenda Lawrence, speaks with Craig about the highlights and hurdles faced by her community. Lawrence says for several years her city was in a slump but last year things began to turn around and this year things are really looking up. She says one of the biggest hurdles that remains is how to re-purpose or upgrade Northland Mall. But she says Southfield is becoming a medical office mecca with quite a few medical companies moving in. She says the inventory of foreclosed homes is down to 5% and most homes that are purchased are getting rehabbed.
