House Republicans Plan for Potholes and Roads

Monday, April 7, 2014

Rep. Wayne Schmidt, Republican chair of the state House Transportation Committee, joins Craig to explain the committee's plan for funding road construction and repairs.

The state House Republicans unveiled a plan to increase funding for Michigan’s crumbling bridges and roads by about half a billion dollars per year. The proposal changes how gas is taxed, and if it is approved by the state Legislature, it would still fall short in generating the level of revenue Governor Rick Snyder says the state needs for transportation funding.

Michigan Municipal League is not convinced that a proposed plan for funding roads will serve municipalities well.

John LaMacchia, Legislative Associate with Michigan Municipal League, relays his concerns about the plan.
