WDET's Amy Miller speaks with criminologist David Kennedy about the implementation of his renowned anti-gang violence program, "Operation Ceasefire", in Detroit.

The program, which was piloted in Boston, dramatically reduced youth homicide rates by as much as 66 percent. "Ceasefire" brings gang members into meetings with community members, social service representatives, and law enforcement officials. Last August, Department of Justice Administrator Melodee Hanes said the city would receive a $1.5 million Community-Based Violence Prevention award. Detroit is one of six cities in the Obama administration’s National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention.

Do you believe "Operation Ceasefire" will be effective in reducing gang violence in Detroit?
