Workforce Development Rises, Unemployment Still High

Figures from the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, released Monday, Showed that both Michigan and Georgia had unemployment rates of 8.8 percent during the month. The BLS also said unemployment increased in 28 states, declined in eight states and was unchanged in 14 states. Nevada had the highest unemployment at 9.5 percent, followed by Illinois at 9.2 percent. Both Rhode Island and North Carolina had an unemployment rate of 8.9 percent.

North Dakota continues to have the lowest unemployment rate at 3 percent, followed by South Dakota at 3.9 and Nebraska at 4.2 percent.
