Detroit has earned a reputation as a hotbed for arts and creative development. George Jacobsen of Kresge Arts discusses the long-term impact of supporting the arts in the Detroit area, and is joined by 2012 Kresge Artist Fellows Xiao Dong Wei and Kim Hunter who give listeners a taste of their upcoming Art X Detroit 2013 performances.

Performing artist Xiao Dong Wei is a vocalist and multi-insturmentalist. Wei's Art X performance, "Wolf Smoke", will feature unique arrangements of world music and traditional Chinese instruments. Today, Wei plays the Chinese string instrument, the Erhu (are-hoe).

Poet Kim Hunter is a lifelong Detroiter and public schools Poet-in-Residence through Inside-Out Literary Arts Detroit. His Art X Detroit reading of the short story The Official Report on Human Activity or Long for an Elephant, an Essay will feature a musical and video accompaniments.
