Representative Peters says he hopes Secretary Johnson will respond to the importance of the project both regionally and nationally. Senators Levin and Stabenow, congressional leaders, members of the Canadian government and even representatives from the Michigan Farm Bureau will all participate in the meeting with Secretary Johnson. "It's not just manufacturers," explains Congressman Peters, who says the project affects residents and various industries in Michigan. Federal funding for the new plaza will ensure "a real opportunity to upgrade the security from what's on the existing bridge," says Peters. While the project is still in the early phases of planning, Peters hopes today's meeting will let the public know that local legislators and the US federal government are aware and united on the issue
