Congressman Dan Kildee joins Craig to discuss his efforts to boost funding for the removal of vacant and blighted buildings in and around Detroit by advocating for a restructure of the Hardest Hit Funds (HHF).

The Congressman sent a letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew pushing for the federal government to allow changes to the HHF funding allocation in Michigan. For Kildee, these efforts are a continuation of his fight to address blighted properties in Detroit, Flint and Saginaw, among other Michigan cities.

“We cannot have a one-size-fits-all approach” to dealing with blight, explains Kildee. “It has to be a multi-tiered approach…and the federal and state governments need to recognize that there are particular challenges in these older communities,” Kildee tells Craig.
