Shirley Stancato is a life-long Detroiter. She is graduate of Cass Technical High School and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Wayne State University. Her dedication to the city lead her to work for New Detroit, an organization which connects business leaders and grassroots organizers to address race relations in the city. She currently is the longest serving CEO and President of New Detroit. Stancato has received numerous awards throughout her career including the Distinguished Leadership Award from the National Association of Community Leadership, Crain's Detroit Business 100 Most Influential Women, Woman of Achievement by the Anti-Defamation League, and the Detroit News Michiganian of the Year. Stancato also appeared in Who's Who in Black Detroit - the Inaugural Edition, 2006.
