This is a big year for the Detroit Boat Club Rowing Team. The Club that is housed on Belle Isle is celebrating its 175th Anniversary. The team is the oldest continuously operating rowing club IN THE WORLD! In addition tomorrow is National “Learn to Row” Day. A new book called Boys in the Boat: 9 Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Olympics by Daniel James Brown tells the amazing and true story of the 1936 Olympics and a crew from University of Washington. WDET’s Amy Miller spoke with Brown about this incredible story and about the sport of rowing. The entire interview is posted above.
