New Welfare Limits Start 10/1

This weekend, thousands of Michigan families will lose state cash assistance welfare payments. About 41,000 thousand people will be affected. More than half live in Detroit, including 15,000 children. They will be the first people to hit the state’s new 48-month limit on benefits. It will also become harder for people to qualify for food assistance. As we hear from Michigan Public Radio’s Rick Pluta, this is the start of a sweeping makeover of public assistance for people in Michigan who have fallen on hard times.
