Polluted Site in Heart of Southwest Detroit Gets Shot At New Life

The Southwest Detroit Business Association is focused on fixing a contaminated site that sits on Livernois and Vernor, the busiest intersection in Mexicantown. The multi-million dollar project, called Vernor Crossing, aims to rehab a seven-acre polluted area, adding green space, a plaza and retail.

Kathy Wendler is the President of the Southwest Detroit Business Association. She spoke with WDET’s Martina Guzman about using the development project as a way to clean up a corner while preserving the community’s culture.
