The University of Michigan Offers In-State Tuition to Undocumented Students

July 22, 2013

"Most of them, even with in-state tuition will still not be able to afford a Michigan education without any help so we are still going to work with the administration to put together a scholarship program that can be made available to undocumented youth so they have some form of support.”

-Daniel Alejandro Morales

The University of Michigan voted last week to extend in-state tuition benefits to undocumented youth in the state. Under the current provision, undocumented students in Michigan were paying out-of-state tuition, which is over 40-thousand dollars per year. WDET’s Martina Guzman spoke with J. Carlisle Larsen about the changes to the policy, and the activism which influenced the school.
