Students First Grades States On School Policies

January 8, 2013

A national education group says Michigan is one of the top 10 states when it comes to enacting reform policies. Students First gives the state a C- on its first national policy report card. The group was founded by Michigan native Michelle Rhee, who gained national attention as the chancellor of the Washington, D.C. schools. Among other things, she supports tenure reform...and stopping the "Last in, first out" practices...where newer teachers are laid off before the more experienced...regardless of effectiveness. Andy Solon is the state director of Students First for Michigan. He spoke with WDET's Pat Batcheller. Click the audio link above to hear the conversation.
