Snyder Signs Pension Reform For Teachers

September 4, 2012

Governor Snyder will sign a bill Tuesday that will change the retirement system for teachers and other public school employees. After he signs it, mnost workers will have to pay more for health insurance, and newly-hired education workers will have to put money in a medical savings account to buy health coverage when they’re done working. Teachers have already filed a lawsuit against the bill, but the governor says the new retirement system will save Michigan and its school districts a lot of money. WDET's Pat Batcheller spoke with Snyder after the governor finished his annual Labor Day walk across the Mackinac Bridge. Click on the audio link above to hear the conversation.
