Feds Surrender Control of DWSD; Who's In Charge?

A federal judge has ended the government’s 35-year oversight of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department. U.S District Judge Sean Cox says the department has made significant improvements in complying with environmental regulations. He turned responsibility for compliance over to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. But now the question is—who’s in charge? And how will it affect consumer water rates? Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash says it’s too early to answer those questions. He spoke with WDET's Pat Batcheller. Click on the audio link above to hear the conversation.
