Mike Kelley's Mobile Homestead at MOCAD

Just behind the Museum of Contemporary Art, in Detroit’s Midtown neighborhood, a newly built ranch home —white with blue shutters and charcoal shingles — recently rolled between a swath of green sod and a newly painted sky blue wall.

The scene is complete. A slice of suburb in the city. But what is this scene?

A model home for a few blocks of pre-fab housing … in the inner city? Ostentatious digs for an on-site construction office?

With heating and plumbing, it is indeed a functional home. It’s also mobile.

But the closer you get to it, the more it bends the mind.

WDET’s Travis Wright brings us a story on one of Detroit’s most interesting homes.
