Mexican Delegation Visits Detroit to Learn Youth Crime Prevention

The Mexican delegation came to the high school on the East side of Detroit to learn about successful crime prevention programs in high crime communities. Frank McGhee is the program director at the Neighborhood Service Organization’s Youth Initiatives Project. He arranged for the officials to speak with former gang members about how they got involved in crime and the support that helped them get on a straight path. Magee says the highlight of the visit was when the young Detroiters gave delegates solution oriented suggestions to take back to Mexico.

“The youth were suggesting policy…strategies around policy that can impact gang violence around the country of Mexico.”

McGhee was recently honored as “Champions of Change” at the White House by President Barack Obama.
Detroit is one of three U-S cities being visited by the Mexican Delegation.
