Mayor Bing Has Intestinal Surgery

Saturday, March 24, 2012

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing underwent surgery Saturday for a perforation of the intestines. He’s recovering at Henry Ford Hospital.

Bing was admitted to the hospital Thursday after reporting discomfort. The city says the Mayor is expected to remain in the hospital for the next five to seven days.

A news release says Bing will be able to resume limited administrative duties soon – but he won’t return to normal activities for up to three weeks.

Bing has designated Chief of Staff Kirk Lewis as deputy mayor. He’ll perform the duties of Mayor until Bing is able to return to his normal activities.

WDET will continue to follow this story through the weekend.
