December 5, 2014

By Travis Wright

Since 2008, Kresge Arts in Detroit has awarded $3.5 million to more than 100 artists from around the region. The numbers are impressive, but what other kinds of support and opportunity do Fellows receive? And is it really worth re-applying if you don't get it on the first go-round?

Poet and performer Chace 'Mic Write' Morris won a fellowship two years ago. Michelle Perron is the Director of Kresge Arts in Detroit. She feels these artists provide energy to move a community, and by providing talented artists with fellowships, they can make more opportunities for cultural development.

They spoke about the nuances of the program with WDET’s Travis Wright as KAID seeks candidates for its 2015 class of Kresge Arts Fellows.

The 2015 Kresge Artist Fellowship application is now open. The application deadline is January 22, 2015.
