Johnson: Higher Vehicle Fees Might Not Be The Answer

January 18, 2013

Governor Rick Snyder called for higher vehicle registration fees to help fix Michigan roads and bridges in his State of the State address. That plus a wholesale tax on fuel would generate more than $1 billion, or about $120 per vehicle. He also asked for changes to some of Michigan's election laws. Secretary of State Ruth Johnson handles both elections and vehicle registrations. WDET's Pat Batcheller asked Johnson if she supports higher vehicle fees, and if not, what alternatives to funding roads she prefers. Click on the audio link above to hear the conversation.
