Honda Parts Shortages Force Production Cuts

Honda says it will temporarily cut its U-S and Canadian vehicle production in half because of parts shortages. WDET’s Jerome Vaughn has details. SOQ

Honda says severe flooding in Thailand is keeping some of the automaker’s suppliers from making critical electronic parts.

The resulting production slowdown will start this week and run at least through November 10th. Honda will cancel all Saturday overtime work through November and vehicle production will be completely stopped for a single day - November 11th.

The slowdowns come just a few months after production at the automaker returned to normal. The March earthquake and tsunami in Japan caused critical parts shortages for Honda and Toyota.

Honda also announced that its profits for the June to September quarter fell 56 percent.
