Ford Recalls 154,000 Fiestas For Airbag Problem

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 154-thousand Fiesta subcompacts because of air-bag problems. WDET’s Jerome Vaughn has more.

The recall affects Ford Fiestas from the 2011 through 2013 model years.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the passenger side curtain airbag may not properly deploy during a side collision when the front passenger seat is unoccupied. The problem could keep a rear seat passenger from receiving proper air-bag coverage during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Ford dealers will re-program the vehicle’s software so that right-side curtain airbags inflate during a side impact crash, even when there is no front passenger. The repairs will be made at no cost to consumers. Affected owners will be notified by mail.
