Detroit City Council Considers Consent Agreement

Detroit City Council held a special session Thursday to consider a proposed financial stability agreement between the city and the State of Michigan.

Deputy Mayor Kirk Lewis and Chief Operating Officer Chris Brown gave a summary of the document to council members. Lewis made a point of saying…the document under review came from the state – not the Bing Administration.

“I would say this document is close. There are certain things in it that we have issue with that we need to address – but I would say it’s probably close enough for discussion.”

Council members Kwame Kenyatta and Joann Watson expressed their strong opposition to the proposed agreement. Other members suggested changes to the deal. Council heard public comment on the proposed agreement late into the evening.
