Remembering Baatin: An Evening With Titus

Born Titus Glover, the rapper known as Baatin formed the hip-hop group Slum Village with fellow emcees T3 and Jay Dee while students at Pershing high school, in the early '90s.

Released in 2000, the group’s major label debut, "Fantastic Volume Two," was highly acclaimed.

Jay Dee -- or Dilla as he’s affectionately known -- would become an iconic beat producer before succumbing to complications from lupus in 2006.

And in the summer of 2009 we lost Baatin, who’d been battling schizophrenia for several years.

Tonight at the Magic Stick, Baatin’s friend and musical cohort, rapper Leaf Erikson, hosts An Evening With Titus: a night of poetry, soul and hip-hop music allin tribute to the legendary Detroit emcee. Doors at 9:00 pm. $10.

I recently sat down with Leaf to talk about Baatin.
