Consumers remained interested in fuel efficient vehicles in April.

Chrysler led Detroit’s automakers with a sales increase of 20% compared to the same month a year ago. The company sold more than 117,000 cars and trucks – its best April since 2008.

Ford says its sales fell five percent last month…despite growth in demand for many of the company’s most fuel-efficient vehicles.

GM sales fell eight percent in April. Officials say fewer sales to rental fleets helped push its numbers lower for the month.

Meanwhile, Toyota continued its rebound from last year’s supply problems caused by natural disasters in Asia. The automaker posted a sales gain of nearly 12 % in April.
