Weather, Hockey Rules, and A "Mini" Ice Age? '13 Almanac Debuts

September 14, 2012

Forecasters at The Old Farmer's Almanac predicted a cool, dry summer for Southeast Michigan in 2012. They were half right. It was a very dry summer, but it also tied a record for the hottest season the region has ever had. The 2013 Almanac says next summer will be cool, but wet. The new edition just came out, and WDET’s Pat Batcheller asked senior associate editor Sarah Perrault how accurate the Almanac’s forecasts usually are, and how they’re made. They also talked about how a lack of sunspots could lead to a cooler climate within 20 years, and why hockey has so many rules and penalties. Click the audio link above to hear the conversation.
