Tigers Head To World Series

October 19, 2012

The Detroit Tigers are heading to the World Series. The team survived rain delays and the powerful New York Yankees en route to their first World Series berth since 2006. Detroit needed this. Teetering on the edge of financial collapse, the city’s Tigers were supposed to be a championship-contending bright spot -- with Triple Crown award winning hitter Miguel Cabrera and perhaps the best pitcher in the American League in Justin Verlander. The Tigers struggled to overtake the Chicago White Sox and even make the playoffs. But once the team did Detroit outlasted the surprising Oakland Athletics, then swept the high-scoring Yankees four games to none -- something that had not happened to New York in three decades. Now the Tigers – and the town – turn their collective eyes towards the possibility of Detroit earning its first World Series title since 1984.
