Michigan Lottery Grabs Record Sales

December 22, 2014

Officials with the Michigan Lottery are reporting record sales for this year. Lottery officials say the state lottery has taken in about $2.6 billion — the tenth straight year sales have topped two billion. Last year lottery sales were just a shade under $2.5 billion. The record take is providing record commissions for the roughly 11,000 retailers who sell lottery tickets — earning them about $190 million combined. That’s a six percent jump from last year. Officials say the lottery also paid-out more than ever before — over $1.5 billion — with about $740 million targeted for the state School Aid fund.
