The Dearborn-based auto company is recalling certain 1997 through 2004 F-150s along with some 1997 through 1999 F-250 pick-up trucks as well as Lincoln Blackwood pick-ups from the 2002 and 2003 model years.

Ford officials say the problem is with the gas tank, especially in cold climate states where salt can corrode the straps that hold the tank to the truck.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration blames the defect for causing eight fires and one burn injury.

Ford Motor Company officials say affected owners will be notified by mail when to bring their pick-ups to local dealers to have their gas tank straps replaced with corrosion resistant ones.
