Economic Growth Corporation Blasts Council Plan To Force Detroit Hires

An organization that promotes new investment in Detroit says an ordinance being crafted by the City Council would discourage businesses from locating here. The Council ordinance would require developers who receive a subsidy of at least $300,000 to hire a certain number of workers from the city and to use Detroit-based businesses. But the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation argues the move would send the wrong message to the marketplace just as the city is attempting to emerge from bankruptcy.
