The North American International Auto Show often features visits by numerous public officials. But few have as vested an interest in automakers’ efforts to produce more fuel-efficient, cleaner-burning vehicles – as does the head of the U-S Environmental Protection Agency -- Gina McCarthy. The EPA and Detroit’s Big Three have long-fought over what limits should be placed on exhaust emissions.
