DPS Emergency Financial Manager Roy Roberts says Glazer, Loving, Edmonson, White and Hamilton schools will become the first charters created by the district. Roberts says DPS could save some money with the charter schools but that’s not the most important thing.

“Educate the kids first because you don’t have another shot at that. We’ve got kids across this city today in classes that will graduate in their life time, they’ll compete with kids from other parts of the world getting a better education that will eat their breakfast, their lunch and their dinner because it’s a very global economy that we operate in.”

Roberts says the companies - New Paradigm for Education, Global Education Excellence and Educational and Management Networks - will host community open houses at the schools next week to talk to parents about the transition for this fall. Roberts says the operators will be held accountable for improving student achievement.
