The Ann Arbor Film Festival started in 1962. So organizers are taking the long view with this year’s celebrations of five decades of cinema.

Donald Harrison is Executive Director of the Ann Arbor Film Festival. He says the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is supporting screenings featuring some of the important films to play over the history of the festival. Harrison says in the past 50 years more than 5,000 films have played the Ann Arbor Film Festival including important early works by filmmakers like George Lucas, Kenneth Anger, Gus Van Sant and even the band Devo.
