Mitzvah Day Brings Faiths Together

December 24, 2013

"It's a nice way to show that people are working together side-by-side."

Janet Berman, co-chair of Mitzvah Day.

While many Christians do volunteer work on Christmas Day, others can’t because they’re traveling or have family obligations. That’s where people of other faiths come in. Wednesday is Mitzvah Day in Metro Detroit, when Jews and Muslims come together to give their Christian friends and neighbors a break so they can enjoy the holiday. WDET’s Pat Batcheller spoke with Janet Berman, the co-chair of Mitzvah Day, which is named for a Hebrew word to describe good deeds. Click on the audio link above to hear the conversation.
