Tesla Asks For Probe, Says Model S Is Safe

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk says it was his company that asked the federal government to investigate battery fires in two Model S electric cars. In each case, the cars were hit with metal road debris that pierced the batteries under the passenger compartment. The vehicles warned the drivers of the damage, and both escaped unhurt.
