$6M Bid for Packard Plant Fizzles. Who's Next?

October 31, 2013

It’s been almost a week since a Texas doctor bid more than $6 million to buy the old Packard Plant in Detroit. Dr. Jill Van Horn reportedly planned to build a new factory on the site, making modular homes and office buildings. Things took a strange twist on Tuesday, when a somewhat incoherent press release issued on her behalf talked about her "prophecy" for Detroit. Van Horn couldn’t come up with enough money to for a down payment on her bid, So the Wayne County Treasurer's office is giving the next highest bidder a chance to buy the property. David Szymanski is Wayne County’s Deputy Treasurer. He tells WDET's Pat Batcheller that Dr. Van Horn didn't have to come up with all of the money at once.
