"We want to improve the quality of life for all Michiganders. And so this bridge is an opportunity to help do that."

Governor Rick Snyder on the New International Trade Crossing.

Canada says it will pay for nearly all the costs to build and operate a new bridge between Detroit and Windsor. The only thing the United States would have to pay for is a new customs and toll plaza. On this side of the border, Governor Rick Snyder has led the push for the New International Trade Crossing. As part of our series on the status of the project this week, the governor gave WDET's Pat Batcheller two reasons why Michigan needs a new bridge to Canada. Snyder also explained how it could benefit residents in the neighborhood where the crossing would be built. Click on the audio links above to hear the conversation.
