A long-time student of urban policy in Detroit is coming home.

Dr. Thomas Sugrue will be the keynote speaker at the Citizen Research Council of Michigan’s 98th annual meeting Friday afternoon.

Sugrue is a professor of History and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania…and a Detroit native.

He wrote the book ”The Origins of the Urban Crisis” -- which put a spotlight on the roots of many of Detroit’s problems

Sugrue spoke with WDET’s Jerome Vaughn. The Detroit native says he’s seeing some changes in attitudes toward urban areas around the country.
