Friday, August 8, 2014

Metro Detroit suffers from high rates of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Many local non-profits are working to combat those serious health issues. This weekend, the McKinney Foundation is holding a health expo on Belle Isle to educate residents on those diseases and ways to prevent them.

Tiah McKinney is the Executive Director of the Foundation. She spoke with WDET’s Jerome Vaughn about the roots of the organization.

The 5th annual “Celebrating a Healthier Detroit” Expo takes place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. next to the giant glide on Belle Isle.
