Election Guide: Counting Write-Ins Could Take Days

Detroit residents could know quickly whether any write-in candidates survive next Tuesday's mayoral primary election. Or not. It'll probably take several days to count the votes. Michigan elections director Chris Thomas says the Wayne County Board of Canvassers will examine each write-in vote, and if there are any discrepancies, such as a misspelled name, they'll try to divine the voter's intent. And a new poll on the mayor's race suggests that write-ins will have a significant impact on the outcome. WDET's Pat Batcheller talked about it with Michigan Public Radio's Rick Pluta about it.
