Unions Say Bankruptcy Usurps Democracy

Labor leaders questioned Governor Rick Snyder's motives for authorizing Detroit's Chapter Nine bankruptcy filing. At a news conference Monday, AFSCME Council 25 President Al Garrett and UAW President Bob King accused the governor of misleading people about the reasons for going to bankruptcy court. They also say Snyder and Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr failed to fulfill their requirement to negotiate with unions and other creditors in good faith before filing for Chapter Nine.
