“I am not a Duggan supporter; a Napoleon supporter; a Howze supporter; or any other. I am a non-partisan entity and I count everybody’s ballots, every initiative. I’m very objective. I have always been that way and I will continue to be that way.”

—Janice Winfrey, Detroit City Clerk

Detroit mayoral hopeful Mike Duggan launched a write-in campaign for the August primary last week, and already opponents are challenging it. Candidate Tom Barrow, who successfully had Duggan’s name removed from the primary ballot, says Duggan can’t run as a write-in either. Barrow says court rulings that disqualified Duggan for filing his nominating petitions too early also prevent him from running a write-in campaign. Barrow wants City Clerk Janice Winfrey to reject Duggan’s write-in bid. WDET's Pat Batcheller asked the clerk whether she will allow Duggan's bid to go forward.
