Mayor Dave Bing Says MLK Had Big Impact On Him

On June 23rd, 1963, Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior led more than 100-thousand people in a march down Woodward Avenue. Later in the day, he gave the first version of his “I Have A Dream” speech.

Throughout this week, WDET will look at the impact of the 1963 march on Detroit, and look forward to this weekend’s commemoration.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing says Doctor King had a significant impact on his life. Bing spoke with WDET’s Jerome Vaughn about the influence of Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior on his life, and on the city as a whole.

The 50th anniversary commemoration of King’s march down Woodward takes place on Saturday.
